State League kicked off on Saturday the 13th of October with the Men’s & Women’s team’s ready to compete for their club to get the first points on the board for the season.

2017/18 Champions Trinity Titans started where they finished off, beating the new addition to the competition in Golden Grove by one set. The match of the day was the number one single, where Golden Groves Nathan Eshmade overcame Andrew Tavella in three sets.

Collingrove got their season off to a strong start when they snuck past Tea Tree Gully four rubbers to two. Matt Teivans was Collingrove’s key player on the day with a strong two set win over Dale Nixon at second single.

Kingswood made a statement to start off the season with a dominant win over Broadview. Kingswood’s Sean Van Rensburg started strongly with a straight sets win over Asykal Azhar at top single. Both Kingswood’s doubles pairings were able finish off strongly only dropping one rubber for the match.

In the battle of two young clubs, Glenlea came out on top against The Drive five rubbers to one. Glenlea’s Jack Schipanski Defeated Stefan Norodom at top single with Schipanski taking it out in two sets to get Glenlea off to a strong start. Patrick Luke got The Drive’s only rubber in Singles when he defeated Sam May in straight sets.

In the women’s Statewide Super State League newcomer Pembroke came up against Kingswood in round 1. Kingswood’s number one Nicole Kraemer got her team off to a good start with a 6-0 3-6 6-1 win over Meeka Marshall. Kingswood kept momentum to win four rubbers to two.

Denman returned to State League competition where they were able to hold off Glenlea by two games getting their season off to a very good start. The match of the day was between Denman’s number two Jacqui Scott and Glenlea’s Eboney Harper who fought out a tight three set match with Scott prevailing.

As the rivalry between these two clubs continues, The Drive came out on top against Seaside by one set. Seaside’s Natasha Russell was in strong form with a straight set win over Melanie Clayton. The Drive’s Melissa Beadman held her own when she proved too good for Tully Richter in straight sets at number two.
