The State Foundation Cup is returning to Berri, South Australia for the sixth consecutive year, with 152 regional players expected to take part in the four day event this week.

Tennis SA, in conjunction with the Berri-View Lawn Tennis Club, will host the event from Tuesday 2 October to Friday 5 October.

The State Foundation Cup will see teams from six regions across the state take part in 10, 13, 15 and 17/U age groups, in both team and individual events. The selected players will be accompanied by two Tennis Australia qualified coaches from within their region.

2018 will be the first year for the 17/U age group, with the addition made to continue the development pathway for junior regional players and to engage them in competition opportunities to prepare them for their future in tennis.

“The addition of the 17-and-under age group is testament to the efforts of our regional coaches and volunteers who continue to drive the sport at the local level,” Ty Allen, Tournaments, Competitions and Officiating Manager said.

“Tennis SA have worked hard to support our regional coaches and volunteers by creating stronger links to Tennis SA pathways and opportunities.”

Hosting the tournament for the sixth time, the commitment of the Berri-View Lawn Tennis Club volunteer group has been highlighted, along with the outstanding 26 court venue across three playing surfaces.

“The Berri-View Lawn Tennis Club has been and continues to be a great club to work with in delivering the State Foundation Cup,” Allen said.

“Their efforts to prepare their courts and host such a large event is a credit to their committee and volunteer group.”

The individual tournament component of the State Foundation Cup will see players compete to earn the right to represent Regional South Australia at the national level with events to be held in Brisbane in December (15/U and 17/U) and Melbourne in January (13/U).
