With just 100 days until the players hit the courts at the Playford City Tennis Centre, it has been announced that the City of Playford Tennis International ATP Challenger will be upgraded to the ATP Challenger 90 category.

This announcement will see the City of Playford Tennis International become one of the first ATP Challenger 90 category events in the world and is anticipated to be the only held in Australia in 2019, taking the total prize pool for the tournament to around AUD$140,000.

Tennis SA and Tennis Australia, in conjunction with the City of Playford, TennisGear and Playford Tennis Club, will host the Australian Pro Tour event from Monday 31 December 2018 to Sunday 6 January 2019.

The international-standard Playford City Tennis Centre will once again play host to the combined Men’s ATP Challenger and Women’s ITF Pro Circuit tournament following an extremely successful inaugural event in January 2018.

The event in the past attracted the likes of world No.35 Daniil Medvedev (RUS), former world No.2 Vera Zvonareva (RUS) and South Australia’s very own world No.160 Alex Bolt.

Registrations for Ballkids are now open for the tournament with local children being given the opportunity to get involved in the on court action. Children aged 9-17 are eligible to join the team, with training sessions to be held during November and December.
