Day 5 has followed a similar path to Day 4 with upsets leaving us with just five seeds remaining in the women’s singles draw the City of Playford Tennis International.

Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru defeated number one seed Lin Zhu (CHN) 0-6 7-5 6-2, whilst second seed Jil Teichmann (SUI) defeated Canberra’s Alison Bai 6-2 4-6 7-5. Vera Zvonareva’s comeback will continue tomorrow following a 2-6 6-2 7-5 win this afternoon over American qualifier Allie Kiick.

In the men’s, qualifier Marinko Matosevic (Vic) played an outstanding match to defeat Tobias Kamke (GER) 6-2 6-0 and Australian wildcard recipient Omar Jasika (Vic) defeated America’s Tommy Paul 6-3 6-3.

The men’s doubles quarterfinals were also played today with Maverick Banes/Jason Kubler (Qld) and Max Purcell (NSW)/Luke Saville (SA) booking themselves places in tomorrow’s all-Aussie semifinal. Mackenzie McDonald/Tommy Paul (USA) and Tobias Kamke/Oscar Otte (GER) will play in the other semifinal, having been on the receiving end of walkovers in their respective quarterfinal matches.

The Day 5 schedule includes men’s quarterfinals, second round women’s singles matches, along with two men’s doubles semifinals.

Australia’s Jason Kubler (Qld) will open Centre Court against eighth seed Uladzimir Ignatik (BLR), followed by South Australia’s Alex Bolt and wildcard recipient Marc Polmans (Vic). Qualifier Alexandra Bozovic (NSW) will play fifth seed Dalila Jakupovic (SLO) to start the day on Court 9, to be followed by Zvonareva against Dulgheru.

The men’s doubles semifinal between Maverick Banes/Jason Kubler (Qld) and Max Purcell (NSW)/Luke Saville (SA) will finish the day on Centre Court.
