Day 4 has been the day for upsets, with just three seeds remaining in the men’s singles draw at the City of Playford Tennis International.

Qualifier Marinko Matosevic (Vic) took down the number one seed and current world No.65 Daniil Medvedev 5-7 6-4 6-4, Australian wildcard recipient Marc Polmans (Vic) overcame the second seeded American, Bjorn Fratangelo, 6-3 5-7 6-4 and qualifier Maverick Banes (Qld) defeated third seed Henri Laaksonen (SUI) 6-3 6-3.

The first round of women’s doubles also took place today with the four top seeds making their way through to the quarterfinals with comfortable straight sets victories.

The Day 5 schedule includes the first round of women’s main draw singles matches, along with two men’s doubles quarterfinals.

Melbourne-born Laura Robson (GBR) will open Court 9 against Ipek Soylu (TUR), with South Australian wildcard recipient Alexandra Walters to follow against fifth seed Dalila Jakupovic (SLO). Former world No.2, Vera Zvonareva will also open her City of Playford Tennis International campaign against qualifier Allie Kiick (USA) on Court 9, not before 4.00 pm.

In the men’s doubles, two all-Aussie quarterfinals await, with top seeds Marc Polmans/Andrew Whittington (Vic) to take on wildcards Maverick Banes/Jason Kubler (Qld) and fourth seeds Max Purcell (NSW)/Luke Saville (SA) to play wildcards Omar Jasika (Vic)/Christopher O’Connell (NSW).
