Junior State League Girls Round 9

Seacliff 5-46 def. Hahndorf 1-22
Round 9 of the girls’ Junior State League commenced at Seacliff, with the home side matching up against Hahndorf.   It was the premiership favourites getting off to a sensational start with Adams (9-3), Harper (9-2), Bennet (9-7) and Glavas (9-1) all winning their singles.  Adams and Harper continued the trend in the top double winning (6-3), however, Hahndorf would finish strongly, with Tobin and Smith taking the second double (6-4).  Hahndorf will need to regroup next week if they are to stay in the top four, while Seacliff are looking ominous and seem destined to remain a top of the ladder for the remainder of the season.

West Lakes 3-43 def. Happy Valley 3-31
A close match took place across at West Lakes Tennis Club, with the home side doing battle with Happy Valley.  First up was the Happy Valley captain Heidi Evans getting her side off to a strong start with a (9-6) win in the top single.  West Lakes then bounced back with Chloe Schwarz (9-3) and Anne Marie-Savas (9-3) getting the win playing some great tennis.  Caitlin Nancarrow then made it two rubbers a piece with a nail biting (9-8) win over West Lakes Shania Carmichael.  Evans and Weatherall then put Happy Valley’s nose in front with a close (7-5) win in the top double, but Savas and Antoniadis brilliant display in their double (6-0) got West Lakes over the line winning by 12 games.   The loss means Happy Valley don’t have a lot of room for error, while West Lakes now draw ever closer to a top 4 spot and will be keen to carry on that momentum next week.

Peake Gardens-Riverside 2-28 def. by Goodwood 4-41
Goodwood had the short trip across South Road to take on Peake Gardens-Riverside.  Ashlee Shield got Peake off to an excellent start, with a (9-3) in the top single.  Williams (9-2) and McColl (9-0) then returned serve for Goodwood with good wins.  Piper Khouri (9-8) the won a close one to even the ledger heading in to the doubles at two rubbers a piece.  From here Goodwood showed their class with Gillam and Williams (6-4), and McColl and Kentwell (6-4) showing the value of the doubles with some great tennis and giving Goodwood a 4-2 victory.  The win was very valuable for Goodwood, putting some daylight between them and Peake Gardens for that second spot on the ladder.

Junior State League Boys Round 9

Coromandel Valley 6-48 def. Glenunga 0-0
Unfortunately for Glenunga, going up against the best team in the comp when you are depleted makes it very difficult to get the win.  Douglas, Sanderson and Mascione were all dominant for Coro in the singles.  Furthermore, that trend continued in the doubles.  Van Rensburg and ‘The Glue’ Sanderson were superb in the doubles not dropping a single game.  Glenunga will be keen to get their full strength squad back asap to keep their finals chances alive, while Coromandel Valley are making it seem like daylight will come second at this stage.

Seacliff 6-48 def. Peake Gardens-Riverside 0-15
Seacliff have been gathering momentum since the early rounds and that continued with their home match against Peake Gardens.  Bianchet (9-1) continued his great form, while Daminato (9-4), Koeroessy (9-1) and Cerone (9-5) all put on solid displays giving Seacliff a singles clean sweep.  The doubles continued in the same fashion with Bianchet and Daminato (6-3) getting it done in the top double, and Koeroessy and Cerone (6-1) too good in the second.  Seacliff now find themselves in second spot, while Peake need to get back in the winners list to stay in touch with the top 4.

Hahndorf 6-48 def. Seaside 0-11
Seaside travelled up to the beautiful Adelaide Hills to take on Hahndorf, with the home side getting their first win of the season in emphatic style!  Crawford led from the front (9-4) for the home team, with Pienaar (9-2) and Crawford-Sandison (9-4) also getting it done.  In the doubles Crawford and Pienaar were dominant for Hahndorf with a great win (6-1) that will no doubt give them some confidence.  Seaside, while depleted, had a down week and will no doubt bounce back.  Hahndorf will be wanting to continue this momentum to try and make a late charge towards the top 4.

Tea Tree Gully 0-14 def. by Trinity 6-48
Tea Tree Gully matched up against Trinity, and unfortunately for the home team, their missing players were too much to cover against the quality of Trinity.  Waterman was superb at the top for the away side with a (9-4) win. Ilic (9-4) and Asquith (9-3) followed in his footsteps.  Gale and Wu then combined in the top double for Trinity to complete a clinical night’s work (6-3).   Tea Tree Gully, much like Seaside, will be very keen to get their full contingent back while Trinity show why they are a force and stay around the top 2 mark.
