South Australia’s ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year nominee, eight-year-old Ryder Donald (Henley Beach, SA), today launched TennisFest.

TennisFest is a week-long celebration of tennis in South Australia held across venues from 17 to 24 November 2017.

TennisFest will feature a total of 13 events and tennis activations take place, as well as host the prestigious Australian Open trophies once again.

The festival aims to showcase the player pathway from participation to performance and provide a variety of opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved in tennis.

To kick start the festival, the Australian Open trophies accompanied by Tennis SA CEO Steven Baldas and Channel 7 Adelaide sports reporter Theo Doropoulos visited Donald at his Fulham North Primary School.

The special visit to Fulham North Primary School comes ahead of Donald’s VIP trip to the Australian Open in January 2018.

As an ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year nominee, Donald will join seven other nominees at Melbourne Park for a behind-the-scenes look at the tournament and play on the courts as some of the world’s best. The ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year will be announced at an awards ceremony on Rod Laver Arena.

The ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year competition recognises and rewards a budding ANZ Tennis Hot Shots participant each month who best demonstrates the spirit of tennis through participation, enthusiasm and enjoyment of the game.

“I’m so excited the Australian Open trophies and Channel 7 have visited my school today to launch TennisFest,” Ryder said.

“I’m really excited about going to the Australian Open as I get to play tennis on the big arena and watch the tennis stars play in real life.”

“It has been a delight to accompany the Australian Open trophies to Ryder’s school today,” Steven Baldas, Tennis SA CEO said.

“Ryder is a very worthy nominee for ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year and we are thrilled to have his help to open TennisFest, our weeklong festival of tennis.”
