Junior State League Results

After two weeks of jam packed Tennis at the Australian Open, Junior State League recommenced its season with the Girl’s playing a Super Round at Peake Gardens Tennis Club and the Boy’s playing at home and away venues.

In the Girls competition Trinity Gardens continue to close the gap on second placed side Happy Valley. Trinity Garden’s number one Amber Marshall won against one of the competitions most consistent players in Heidi Evens winning 6-2. Happy Valley’s Cydney Crumbie held on at number two winning 6-2 against Yasmin Bennett. While Trinity’s players Meeka Marshall and Angela Galantomos at three and four were the determining factor winning their respective singles and doubles where they partnered up together. Trinity won four rubbers to two.

Goodwood returned to the season in fine form when they came up against Beaumont not allowing a player to win more than three games winning six rubbers to none. With three rounds of the regular season remaining, they are the only team in the State League competition to not lose a match.

Hahndorf had a commanding five rubbers to one win over Seaside. Kara Tscharke set the tone for the night with a 6-0 win over Caitlin Wyatt at number one and from there Hahndorf continued to dominate. Hahndorf now only sit 10 points outside of the top four.

In the Boy’s competition Trinity Gardens currently sit in third place with Glenunga and Stirling hot on their tail. Trinity continued to keep the small gap on their rivals when they defeated Seaside. Trinity Gardens Luka Ilic defeated Nikolai Dobrovolski in a tight contested battle winning 7-5. Seaside’s Lachlan Brain won at three against Cooper Asquith 6-2. This was Seaside’s only win for the night handing over a five rubbers to one victory to Trinity Gardens.

Goodwood hosted Tea Tree Gully at home in a match that was expected to be close as Tea Tree Gully’s position on the ladder can be deceiving. Goodwood’s Josh Laka came up against Dale Nixon who is currently ranked second on the Player of the Year Ladder. Josh Laka was the better player on the night winning 6-2, this was then followed by a dominant display of tennis by Goodwood’s Ben Cahill defeating Bradley Smith 6-0. Tea Tree Gully’s Reece Hemming and Connor Gibson battled it out winning 7-6 and 7-5 to put their team back in the race. In the end Goodwood’s pairing in the doubles were too strong defeating Tea Tree Gully in both rubbers handing them a four rubbers to two win.

With three rounds remaining in the regular season the race for a position in the finals is vastly closing.
