Taylor Fritz (USA) is the City of Onkaparinga ATP Challenger 2016 champion, after taking out the men’s title in Happy Valley on Sunday.

World No.154, Fritz defeated Dudi Sela (ISR) to win the event in its second year.

“It felt really great on the court, there was times where in the match where it was pretty tough and I was being out played but I was lucky enough to get through it and I was playing good tennis and obviously it feels great to win,” said Fritz following his match.

“It’s been a really nice experience, everyone here does a great job making the tournament happen and you feel really cared for at this event. I enjoyed everything and I am sure that that has some effect on how I played and why I did well here,” said Fritz about the tournament.

This is Fritz’s third ATP Challenger title having claimed the Sacramento and Fairfield Challengers in 2015.

Leading into the final, Fritz had played in multiple tough matches, including a second round three set clash against fellow American, Alexander Sarkissian 6-3 6-7(0) 7-6(5).

Earlier in the day, the doubles final was played with second seeds Denys Molchanov (UKR) and Aleksandr Nedovyesov (KAZ) taking a 6-3 5-3 lead, before Matteo Donati (ITA) and Andrey Golubev (KAZ) mounted a spirited comeback to take the title 3-6 7-6(5) 10-1.

The finals day was a fitting finale for an event that has over the past week given local tennis fans the opportunity to attend and watch some of the world’s best from across the world compete for USD$75,000 in prize money and valuable world ranking points.
