3 March 2014 | Tennis SA

Luke Saville (Cobdogla, SA) and Misa Eguchi (JPN) have won the men’s and women’s titles at the 2014 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International.

Eguchi played a sensational match to beat her country womam Hiroko Kawata 6-1 6-2. It was Eguchi’s second ITF title this year and gives her a terrific start to her 2014 season.

In the men’s final South Australian Luke Saville claimed his first Futures title in South Australia and fourth overall after an impressive display against Jordan Thompson (NSW). Saville looked supremely focused in the first set and broke Thompson twice to win the set 6-2. Unfortunately Thompson injured his back early in the second set after landing awkwardly for a smash and had to retire with Saville leafding 3-1 in the second set.

That completes a terrific week of tennis at the 2014 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International. Thanks to all the people who supported the event throughout the week. The hospitality and professionalism of the people from the Port Pirie Tennis Association was fantasic and made the week very enjoyable for all involved.

The Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International is part of the 2014 Australian Pro Tour, a series of professional tennis events that bridge junior events and the WTA Tour and ATP Tour, providing an opportunity for players to earn their first world ranking points.
