Tournament tennis players will be in their element next month as not only does the Pro Tour roll into South Australia, but a series of Australian Money Tournaments, Optus Junior Tours, Medibank Junior Development Series and other special events take place in what surely must be dubbed a ‘Super September’.
The Pro Tour arrives into SA earlier than in previous years with the City of Onkaparinga Men’s at Happy Valley and newly announced City of Salisbury Women’s events taking place from the 9th to 16th. The men and women then convene in Port Pirie for the institution that is the Nyrstar Port Pirie Pro Tour event from the 15th to 23rd.
Tennis SA this week announced two Australian Money Tournaments to complement the Pro Tour. Both being held at the iconic Memorial Drive, these respective tournaments from 5th to 8th and 11th to 14th will provide local and touring players the opportunity to play for over $10,000 in prize money.
The September school holidays will see another block of junior tournaments starting with the popular Strathalbyn September Age, a combined Medibank Junior Development Series and Optus Junior Tour white level tournament. This is followed by the State Tennis West Lakes October Age Championships (Bronze), Barossa Junior Championships (Silver) and the Millswood October Age (Gold).
The weekend of the 15th and 16th will see The Barossa and Light Tennis Association’s Pindarie Wines Senior Tournament take place at the picturesque Lyndoch Tennis Club – Whist the tennis will be keenly contested, the socialising in the famous Barossa is sure to be as keen.
Adelaide is hosting the 2012 Australian University Games from September 23rd to 28th and Tennis SA is proud to be facilitating the team tennis competition being held at the wonderful Kensington Garden’s grass courts. Up to 7,000 students will participate in the games and the tennis event is always a popular category.
Finally, the best regional junior players will meet at the Gawler Tennis Club for the 2012 Foundation Cup from the 23rd to 27th. Whilst the players get the opportunity to represent their region, they are also vying for a place on the state team that will head to Sydney for the National Foundation Cup held in January.
