Jason Kubler will make his US Open main-draw debut after being announced as a wildcard recipient for the year’s final Grand Slam event.

The 25-year-old, currently ranked No.109, has enjoyed a breakout season highlighted by two ATP Challenger titles and a successful run through qualifying to contest his first Wimbledon main draw.

The most recent of those Challenger titles came one month ago on the hard courts of Winnipeg, Canada, a result that helped boost him to a career-high ranking of No.105 in late July.

Kubler has won 15 of his last 20 matches and heads into the US Open enjoying some of the best form of his injury-plagued career.

This week the Queenslander is competing in the Vancouver Challenger, winning his first-round match against Stefano Travaglia in straight sets on Monday.

“I’m stoked to be awarded this wildcard,” Kubler said.

“I’ve always dreamt of playing in the US Open main draw. I’ve worked pretty hard over the last 12 months and it’s paid off. I’m playing some of my best tennis of my career and looking forward to the challenge. Thanks to TA for this opportunity.”

Kubler joins fellow Australians Nick Kyrgios, Alex de Minaur, Matt Ebden, John Millman and Jordan Thompson in the main draw at Flushing Meadows, which gets under way on 27 August.

Seven more Aussie men – James Duckworth, Bernard Tomic, Alex Bolt, Marc Polmans, John-Patrick Smith, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Max Purcell – are entered into the qualifying tournament which begins on 21 August.

“I’m delighted we’ve decided to award the US Open wildcard to Jason Kubler, and congratulate him on what has been a terrific year,” said Wally Masur, Tennis Australia’s Director of Performance.

“Jason is not that far out of the top 100, and close to direct entry into the main draw. He qualified for Wimbledon and he’s absolutely heading in the right direction and achieving the results he needs.

“Jason’s many injury struggles have been well documented and it takes an enormous amount of dedication and perseverance to overcome the setbacks he’s experienced.

“We wish him all the very best in New York.”

The Australian women’s wildcard for the US Open will be awarded to the winner of an eight-player play-off event being staged in New Haven this weekend.

The play-off field will be announced later this week.
