The first round of the 2015 Junior ATL was held on Sunday at the Millswood Tennis Complex.

In the girls draw, Western Districts Tennis Association put in a very strong showing for the first round, with a 6 rubbers to 0 win against Glenelg Districts Tennis Association. Serena Williams kicking off WDTA’s campaign with a 4-0 4-0 win over Jayne Hedger. Natasha Svetlichny put up a brave fight for GDTA going down in a tight tussle against Millie Pearce 4-1 3-4 3-4.

Eastern Districts Tennis Association began their campaign with a 5 rubbers to 1 victory against Hills Tennis Association. Hayley Waterman helped EDTA to their win with a 4-2 4-2 win against Olivia Hughes. Anika Tobin and Olivia Hughes fought hard for a doubles win for the Hills with a 4-2 4-3 win against Alana Repanich and Hayley Waterman.

Southern Districts Tennis Association rounded out the action with a 4 rubbers to 2 win against North East Tennis Association. Lucy Eaton had a 4-0 4-1 victory against Natalie Quast to give SDTA the edge heading into the doubles. Indi-Arna Morris fought well for NETA, claiming a 4-1 4-1 victory over Jacqui Scott, whilst later teaming up with Michiko Trebilco to win their doubles match 4-2 4-3 against Jacqui Scott and Nicola Pavlic.

In the boys draw, WDTA secured a hard-fought 5 rubbers to 1 win against GDTA. Number 1 and 2 seeds Nikolai Dobrovolski and Caleb Hansen were pushed to 3 sets by Pierce Hynes and Adarsh Jacob respectively, but prevailed to send WDTA on their way to victory.

EDTA and the HTA faced off, with EDTA securing a 5 rubbers to 1 win. David Wang was pushed all the way by Brandon Wall, winning 4-3 4-2 to lead EDTA on their way. Brandon later teamed up with Hamish Crawford to secure a tight win in the doubles for HTA with a 4-3 2-4 4-3 victory over David Wang and David Jung.

SDTA and NETA rounded out the action, where Stefan Bianchet of SDTA was in great form with a 4-0 4-0 win over Matt Hoang, whilst Jock Piper defeated Chris Hoang 4-1 3-4 4-2 to help set-up the win for SDTA. Chris and Matt Hoang regrouped for the doubles and fought from a set down to claim a 3-4 4-0 4-3 victory against Jock Piper and Alex Bruschi to get NETA on the board.

The second and third rounds of the Junior ATL will be held this coming Sunday at Millswood Tennis Complex, with the Second Round to commence at 9am, whilst the Third Round will begin at Midday.
