The South Australian Bruce Cup team has recently capped off another successful campaign by finishing second in the event for the second consecutive year in a row. The Bruce Cup is a prestigious national schools tennis championships open to girls and boys aged 12/u.

The South Australian team was represented by seven boys Jasper Benson, Patrick Douglas, Sebastian Flock, Stefan Gligorov, Jack McCarthy, Sam Sanderson and David Wang and seven girls Madison Bishop, Tiana Glazbrook, Yasmin Glazbrook Amber Marshall, Natasha Russell, Isabella Ryles and Tayla Whitehouse,  coached by Craig Mousley . The young South Australians only lost one tie during the weeklong event to eventual champions and hosts Queensland. The tie came down to the final two mixed doubles in which South Australia needed to win both however were unable to get the result losing both in a tiebreaker.

Despite the loss to Queensland the South Australian players can now take a great deal of momentum into the December Showdown and the final junior tournaments left on the calendar.

State Development Coach Joel Kerley said ‘the result shows that South Australian players can well and truly mix it with the best 12/u players in Australia’.

The Bruce Cup is conducted by School Sport Australia (SSA) in partnership with Tennis Australia and offers athletes Australian ranking points.  The Bruce Cup is a prestigious national schools tennis championships open to girls and boys aged 12/u.  The national event attracts Australian ranking points.  Approximately 1500 primary school students compete annually in the SSV Tennis Championships and/or region and district championships.
