Tennis SA’s Be Active Challenge is set to hit new heights in 2017 with the addition of two national events to the line-up. The National Foundation Cup and Tennis Seniors Teams Carnival and Individual Championships are being hosted by the state for the first time, with a total of 18 events to be held during the four weeks.

The Tennis Seniors Teams Carnival and Individual Championships will be held at various venues across Adelaide from 8-20 January. The Tennis Seniors Teams Carnival will see 110 teams competing. More than 1,000 visitors are expected to visit the state during the event – a 25 per cent increase on last year’s Teams Carnival held in Shepparton, Victoria. Organisers are primed for a big fortnight of tennis for players aged 35-years young and over.

The National Foundation Cup will be held at West Lakes Tennis Club from the 8-13 January and see the top four 13/u boys and girls from regional areas in every state competing in a week long teams event. South Australia has assembled a strong line up based on a development pathway for regional athletes that culminates in selections for the National Foundation Cup.

Hosting these events give additional playing opportunities to players of all ages and abilities throughout the Be Active Challenge period.

“These two National events further highlight the objective of the Be Active Challenge to provide events for players of all abilities, ages and background,” Tennis SA CEO Steven Baldas said.

“The January gives us the opportunity to highlight tennis as truly accessible and enjoyable sport for all South Australians and we encourage people to pick up a racquet whether it be in a structured competition, tournament or just a casual hit with friends,” Baldas added.

Eighteen Be Active Challenge events are to be held from 27 December through to the finals of the Strathalbyn Australian Money Tournament on 23 January. There will be more than $100,000 in total prize money awarded during the Be Active Challenge which includes the City of Onkaparinga Tennis Challenger 2017.
