Barty, Stosur set to begin grass season in Nottingham
Plenty of Aussies players are in action this week as the ATP World Tour and WTA Tour's grass court seasons begin.
Ash Barty and Sam Stosur begin their grass court seasons in Nottingham tonight.
Barty, who is the top seed at the Nature Valley Open, faces Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele in the opening round. Stosur, a wildcard entry into the Wimbledon lead-up tournament, plays seventh-seeded Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan.
Arina Rodionova lost in the first round last night, beaten by American qualifier Irina Falconi 6-4 6-1.
Five Australians – Bernard Tomic, Max Purcell, Matthew Ebden, Alex Bolt and Ajla Tomljanovic – feature in first round singles action in s-Hertogenbosch tonight.
Purcell, who is making his ATP main draw debut after qualifying for the tournament, faces Tunisian Malek Jaziri. Tomic, who also earned his place through qualifying, plays former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis.
Bolt, who also qualified for the singles event, is teaming up with Lleyton Hewitt again this week in doubles. The pair, who reached the semifinals at an ATP Challenger event in Surbiton last week, received a wildcard into the s-Hertogenbosch doubles draw.
Nick Kyrgios makes his singles return in Stuttgart this week. As the No.4 seed he receives a bye into the second round.
John Millman lost his opening round match overnight, beaten by Argentina’s Guido Pella 6-2 6-2.
