The Men’s and Women’s State League saw some thrilling matches and nail-biting finishes over the weekend. See all the results and match wrap ups below:

WOMEN’S 

Hensman Park defeated Peppermint Grove 5-1 

Hensman Park showcased their prowess in a resounding victory against Peppermint Grove, concluding with a 5-1 win. While Jessie Culley secured a singles win for Peppermint Grove, Hensman Park’s Anja Dokic, Ksenija Vujacic, and Ella Nurkic demonstrated unwavering form, clinching decisive victories in their respective singles matches. The doubles combinations of Anja Dokic/Alice Stevens and Alfee Stevens/Ksenija Vujacic sealed the deal with impressive teamwork, solidifying Hensman Park’s dominance on the court and remaining undefeated and on top of the ladder after three rounds.

 

Alexander Park defeated Applecross 4-2 

In a closely contested matchup, Alexander Park emerged victorious against Applecross. Ruby Broadbent’s singles win provided a highlight for Applecross, but the consistent performances from Sheridan Currie and Katy O’Shea of Alexander Park ultimately secured their team’s triumph. The doubles match featuring Ruby Broadbent/Tara Claassens against Madeleine Watson/Steph Watson showcased the competitive spirit of both teams, with the former clinching a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

 

Royal Kings Park defeated Dalkeith 5-1 

Royal Kings Park displayed dominance in their match against Dalkeith, emerging victorious and winning two matches on the trot. Rhea Makesar’s singles victory, along with strong performances from Amy Findlay and Maree Casey, set the tone for Royal Kings Park’s success. The doubles combinations of Rhea Makesar/Justine Hayward-Janney and Amy Findlay/Saanvi Tak further solidified their team’s position at the top, securing crucial wins and contributing to the overall triumph.

 

MEN’S 

Blue Gum Park defeated by Mt Lawley/Sorrento 3-3 (tied at 6 sets each, 53 games to 57 games) 

The showdown between Blue Gum Park and Mt Lawley/Sorrento was nothing short of a nail-biter. In singles action, Jay Fairclough faced a formidable opponent in Jerome Iaconi, succumbing to a 2-6, 2-6 defeat. Brendan Jayaprakash fought valiantly against Casey Ambler but ultimately fell short with a 4-6, 4-6 score. Rory Marles turned the tide for Blue Gum Park, securing a crucial victory against Michael Faulkner with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3.

 

The doubles matches were equally gripping, with Blue Gum Park’s Fairclough/Marles overcoming Chia/Ambler with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph. However, Mt Lawley/Sorrento retaliated as McDougall/Iaconi were defeated by Jayaprakash/Brown in a tight contest that ended 7-6, 6-1.

 

Peppermint Grove defeated Cottesloe 4-2 

Peppermint Grove emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle against Cottesloe. The singles matches were marked by intense competition, with standout performances from Jayden Court, Brandon Walkin, and Luka Vujacic securing crucial points for Peppermint Grove. Notably, Brendan Jones’s match against Will Hann ended in retirement early in the second set with Will Hann up.

The doubles matches further heightened the drama, with Court/Jones falling to Hann/Webster with a 3-6, 5-7 score. However, Peppermint Grove sealed the victory with a stellar performance by Chapman/Ashenden, defeating Dunn/Burton in a thrilling encounter that concluded 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.

 

Alexander Park defeated UWA 3-3 (9 sets to 7 sets) 

The clash between Alexander Park and UWA delivered another round of enthralling tennis action. Scott Jones displayed his prowess in singles, securing a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tim Gray. Ashwin Sharma continued the momentum for Alexander Park, triumphing over Hans Bustiman with a 6-4, 6-3 score. However, Daniel Downey faced a tough challenge, ultimately falling to Luca Katsamakis in a closely contested match that ended 6-3, 0-6, 6-10.

The doubles matches were a rollercoaster of emotions, with Jones/Sharma pulling off a comeback victory against Gray/Lawrence, winning 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. Despite a spirited effort from Downey/Manso, they were narrowly defeated by Bustiman/Katsamakis with a scoreline of 4-6, 7-5, 5-10.
