It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Tennis West Board Member Tony Cunningham on Sunday 21 April 2024.
Tony was elected to the Tennis West Board in 2019 and re-elected for a second term in 2022 bringing his valuable commercial experience and tennis relationships to the Board. He was a member of the Finance, Audit, Investment and Risk Committee and the Hall of Champions Working Group. During his time on the board Tony supported the Tennis West Investment Portfolio to ensure financial stability during the COVID years and utilised his wealth of tennis knowledge to add value to the strategic direction of Tennis West.
Tony was the President of UWA Tennis Club between 2001 – 2003 and was instrumental in raising the required $1.2 million to fund the clubs new club house, car park and six clay courts.
Tony had a strong family history of tennis in Western Australia and was a talented junior player who claimed many junior tournament titles in additional to numerous Club Championships. Tony also received a tennis scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 tennis at the University of Nebraska.
Tony above all was passionate about the long-term growth of tennis in WA and one of the most genuine and kindest people you could meet.
