Statement from the Tennis West Board re Former CEO Brett Patten

Following an investigation into a matter connected with this year’s State League Finals, a Tennis Australia Integrity Unit report stated that Mr Patten’s role in the matter fell short of the “evidence threshold” required to prove a breach of policy but added that the circumstances surrounding the matter had the “potential to undermine the reputation and integrity of the position he holds”.

Mr Patten was extensively interviewed by the Integrity Unit, and the report was discussed by the Board during a special meeting in August. After consideration of the full content of the report, a majority of Board members supported a motion of no-confidence in Mr Patten, which led to the decision to terminate his employment.

It should be noted that Mr Patten’s nomination for the SportsWest awards occurred before these matters came to light.

Tennis Australia were consulted throughout the process. They support the decision undertaken by the Tennis West Board, and they have enabled former Tennis Queensland CEO Cam Pearson to step into an interim role to lead the team while a search is underway for the new CEO.

We acknowledge the contribution of the whole Tennis West team to the success of tennis in Western Australia.  Tennis Australia will continue to work closely with Tennis West to ensure the best outcomes for the sport in Western Australia.

Regards,

Tennis West Board
