Australia’s best 18 and under tennis players will compete at Alexander Park Tennis Club in the Australian High Schools tournament, the Pizzey cup, starting on Sunday 4 May.

Teams comprising eight boys and eight girls from every State and the ACT will assemble at 5.30 pm on Saturday 3 May for a spectacular opening ceremony.  The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Mr Terry “Tuck” Waldron will attend along with officials from School Sport Australia and Tennis West.

Play commences each morning at 9.00am, with teams playing each other in a round robin draw for the “Jack Pizzey Cup”.  Boys and girls singles and doubles and a mixed doubles are played.  The last round will be played on Saturday 10 May.

Each afternoon players will compete in an elimination singles draw competition for the Australia Cup.  The finals to decide the best boy and girl player will be held on Saturday 10 May from 1.00pm with chair umpires and linespeople officiating.

The finals round will be followed by a magnificent closing ceremony with the presentation of trophies and the naming of the All-Australian team.

You are encouraged to come along and watch what could well be the best tennis played on the APTC courts in recent times, who knows you might be watching a soon-to-be  Australian Open Champion!
