Bernard Tomic will play Tomas Berdych in the third round of the Miami Open after defeating American Austin Krajicek in straight sets.

Tomic shook off the effects of last week’s wisdom tooth trouble and back pain at Indian Wells – which forced him to forfeit a match – to win 7-6(6) 7-5 on Friday (Saturday AEDT).

Eighth-seeded Czech Berdych progressed with a 6-3 6-4 victory over South Korea’s Chung Hyeon.

Berdych has won all three of his meetings against Tomic, most recently winning in straight sets when they met in the Australian Open fourth round in January.

In WTA action, Casey Dellacqua, seeded 32nd, fell to rising star Belinda Bencic in three sets.

The West Australian pushed the Swiss teen – among the highest-ranked unseeded players in the draw at No.34 – yet ultimately fell 6-2 4-6 6-2.
