Ajla Tomljanovic will play Rebecca Peterson for a place in the WTA Rabat semifinals after a three-set win over Timea Bacsinszky on Wednesday.

Tomljanovic beat the former world No.9 6-4 1-6 6-2, breaking serve six times en route to victory.

It’s the second straight year Tomljanovic has progressed to the quarters of the International-level clay-court event; she went all the way to the final in 2018.

Tomljanovic, ranked 43rd, improves to 15-10 in 2019 and is through to her third WTA quarterfinal of the season.

Peterson advanced to the last eight thanks to a three-set win over Polona Hercog, who won the recent WTA title in Lugano.

Meanwhile, at the ATP tournament in Estoril, John Millman was forced to retire midway through his second-round clash with Joao Domingues.

The world No.50, who beat Bernard Tomic in the opening round on Tuesday, had lost the first set 6-3 and trailed 2-1 in the second when he pulled the pin due to a left foot injury.

Portuguese wildcard Domingues, the world No.214, also beat Australian No.1 Alex de Minaur in the opening round.

He will now meet top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, who beat Guido Andreozzi 6-3 6-4 to record his 20th tour-level win of the campaign.
