With six Queenslanders in the main draw of the French Open, you would be forgiven for thinking that Queensland Tennis is already over-achieving on the international stage this month.

The fortunes of Ash Barty, Ajla Tomjlanovic, Sam Stosur, Priscilla Hon, John Millman and Bernard Tomic will keep us gripped during the next fortnight from Roland Garros but there is more to celebrate and be proud of.

15 year old Sarah Lemmon-Warde from Brookfield Tennis Club has flown to Paris to be part of the French Open ballkids squad.  Sarah was chosen for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after being named top ballkid at January’s Australian Open in Melbourne.

Mount Low’s 17 year old Mikayla Zahirovic is flying back from the Fiji Open with a trophy in her luggage. Mikayla was part of a five strong Indigenous team to represent Australia. She reached the singles final and won the mixed doubles with her partner Corey Blake.

And finally, The Kelvin Grove Girls Team is preparing to fly to the World Schools Championships in Italy, after winning the Australian title.

The Brisbane schoolgirls defeated Meriden in a close final at the 2018 Australian Schools Tennis National Challenge in Albury.

The team will play against Italy, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Turkey.
