MOUNT Isa’s up-and-coming tennis talents have furthered their learning at the recently completed Medibank Junior Development Series Finals.

The West Region North Zonal team, consisting of eight boys and eight girls from across the region, illustrated their skills at the Rockhampton competition late last month.

The tournament was of a high standard, with the region’s players doing it tough according to Copper City Tennis Club’s Theresa Braithwaite.

“Most of the time they had their backs to the wall,” she said.

“Although the players found the level difficult at times, the players gave everything possible to try and outsmart their opponents.

“The sportsmanship of the whole team has to be commended, something which always stands out when participating at this level of competition.” The North West team finished eighth, with Gold Coast taking out the series with 51 points.

“The opportunity for our children to participate at these tournaments would not be possible without the invaluable support and financial assistance of our sponsors,” Braithwaite said.
