The 2013 Brisbane Open Age kicked off on Friday the 5th of April. The 16/U event was held at Griffith University, Mt Gravatt whilst the 12/U event and all finals were at the Queensland Tennis Centre. Rain threatened on all four days of competition but fortunately both age groups were completed on Monday as scheduled. This event is seen as a great lead in to the 12/U National Clay Court Championships being held in Ipswich starting tomorrow.

A total of 202 competitors entered over both age groups. Tennis Queensland President, Ken Laffey was in attendance for the presentation commenting on the greater number of entries tournaments have been receiving.

The 12/U Boys Singles was won by the number 2 seed from Sunshine Coast Dane Sweeny who took out fifth seeded Josh Kaplan from South Coogee in New South Wales. Sweeny looked in control from the outset taking the match 6/0 6/2. In the 12/U Girls Singles top seed from Gold Coast Lada Baglaeva dominated third seeded Danielle Morris from Brisbane 6/0 6/1.

16/U Boys fourth seed from Brisbane Benjamin Slade continued his red hot form that seen him take out the top seed yesterday by ousting second seed from Bilambil Heights Aaron Westerlund 6/2 6/3. In the 16/U Girls fifth seed Likitha Silapurem from Brisbane took out fourth seed Amber Molloy from Casuarina by a score line of 6/4 6/2.

The Brisbane Open Age continues tomorrow as it welcomes the 10/U and 14/U age groups. The 10/U event will be played at the Ambiwerra Sports Complex tomorrow whilst the 14/U event and all finals will be at the Queensland Tennis Centre.
