Gympie Gold City Seniors 35+ tournament

A strong field of 132 players from all over Queensland joined the locals in the Gympie Gold City Seniors 35+ tournament in March. The most senior players competing were Alan Searle (81) from Bundaberg, local player, Ron Ostwald (82) and John Wakely of Brisbane (84).  Although Ostwald & Wakely were not successful in winning, they did “Keep them honest”.

Longreach player, Brian Savage, made good his long journey to win all five events he contested.  These included: 60 Mens Singles; 50 & 55 Mens doubles with Ian Gallagher; 60 Mixed Doubles with Judith Rodins and 130 Combined Mens Doubles with John Walker.

2012 TSQ Senior of the Year Award

2012 TSQ Senior of the Year Award was presented to Aki Lepper of Maleny by TSQ Secretary, Coral Vickers. Gympie Seniors President, Warren Arnell,  said Aki captures the spirit of the game by showing great sportsmanship and support of many tournaments. She was also a great help during the tournaments at Gympie and Sunshine Coast.

ITF World Teams Cup Championships

Australian teams of Seniors 35+ have just finished competing in Antalya, Turkey in the ITF World Teams Cup Championships. Age groups range from 35+ to 55+ in Womens and Mens Events. Four Women’s teams and five Men’s teams are representing Australia.

Queensland representatives in these teams are:

  • COURT CUP 45+ (Women): Karen Pearce (Toowoomba) and Julie Dybendahl (Gold Coast)
  • ITALIA C UP 35+ (Men) Rhys Mc Dougall (Gold Coast)
  • DUBLER CUP 45+ (Men) Chris O’Mara (Toowoomba)
  • AUSTRIA CUP 55+ (Men) Mike Ford (Gold Coast)

ITF World Individual Championships in these age groups will continue from 24 to 31 March.

UPCOMING TOURNAMENT

2013 Sunshine Coast Veterans Tournament will be held at Nambour from 19 to 21 April at Washington Street courts.  Entries close on 12 April with May Young.
