16 excited Hot Shots tennis players were first up on Show Court 1 this morning as part of the Brisbane International kids on-court demonstrations.

The kids coming from as far West as Chinchilla, Roma, Cecil Plains, Linville, Kilcoy, Dalby and Bribie Island aged between 5-12 years of age and led by dedicated coaches Tom and Steve Farrell hit on the mini-courts set up on Show Court 1.

Their session started with some small agility warm-ups, testing the vocal chords with some grunting and then having the chance to play some up-and-down rotations with each other. We even had some of the kids hit 15 consecutive ball rallies – what an achievement!

MLC Tennis Hot Shots (MLCTHS) is just for kids. Smaller courts, lighter racquets and low compression balls that don’t bounce too high make learning tennis fun and easy for primary school-aged children. This means that kids are able to start rallying and having fun right from their first lesson!

There are three stages – Red, Orange and Green – that help to develop children’s skills and confidence. Children are taught by qualified Tennis Australia coaches and progress at their pace, moving on to the next stage when they are ready.
