Alex de Minaur on Monday accounted for Hugo Dellien 6-1 7-5 to advance to the second round of the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel.

De Minaur, Australia’s highest-ranked male player, was granted a wildcard into the ATP 500 event and was ruthless on break point opportunities against Bolivian qualifier Dellien, converting six of seven.

The 20-year-old trailed 3-0 and 5-3 in the second set; Dellien served for it at 5-4 and held two set points, but De Minaur escaped, winning the final four games of the match to seal victory in one hour, 36 minutes.

He will face the winner of the match between second-seeded Alexander Zverev and American Taylor Fritz.

De Minaur’s compatriot Alexei Popyrin, who beat Joao Sousa and Soon Woo Kwon in qualifying to reach the main draw, will meet Italian fifth seed Fabio Fognini on Tuesday.
