John-Patrick Smith has secured a main-draw slot at the ATP tournament in St Petersburg after winning his final-round qualifying match on Monday.

The Queenslander beat Russian wildcard Mikhail Elgin 7-6(4) 6-2 in one hour and 43 minutes, his second win in as many days at the indoor hardcourt event.

Smith will now line up against another Russian – veteran Mikhail Youzhny, a former world No.8 – in the first round.

In his last two tournaments, at the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open, Smith also came through the qualifying rounds to reach the main draw.

He and Youzhny pair will play their match on Tuesday; in their only previous meeting, Youzhny beat Smith in four sets in the first round of the 2015 US Open.

Also playing on Tuesday will be four Aussie women as part of the WTA Asian swing.

Daria Gavrilova will play her first-round match at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo against qualifier Magda Linette, while Sam Stosur, Arina Rodionova and Lizette Cabrera will all take to the court in Guangzhou.
