The Australian Junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams have today been named to play at the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event in Gimcheon, South Korea (22-27 April 2013).

Marc Polmans (Maribyrnong, Vic), Akira Santillan (Varsity Lakes, Qld) and Oliver Anderson (Yeronga, Qld) will represent Australia in the Junior Davis Cup side, while the Junior Fed Cup team will feature Naiktha Bains (Brookfield, Qld), Olivia Tjandramulia (Rockhampton, Qld) and Kimberly Birrell (Hope Island, Qld).

Australian tennis legend Mark Woodforde will captain the Junior Davis Cup side and Louise Pleming will head the Junior Fed Cup team.

“We are confident our Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup teams can remain as top four nation in the Asia/Oceania region,” said Mark Edney, Australian Institute of Sport and Tours Manager for Tennis Australia.

“Both sides have a talented pool of players. Marc Polmans and Naiktha Bains have a great deal of international touring experience. Oliver Anderson and Kimberley Birrell have also played abroad and represented Australia at the ITF 14 and under World Junior Tennis Finals in the Czech Republic last year.”

Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is an international team event for boys and girls aged 16 and under.

Qualifying events are played in Asia/Oceania, Europe, South America, North/Central America and Africa to determine the top sixteen teams. The top four qualifiers from the Asia/Oceania group will go on to compete in the world finals in San Luis Potosi, Mexico (24-29 September 2013).
