Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki needed to win two tiebreakers to advance at the Family Circle Cup.
The top-seeded Dane defeat Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (9-7) in a match that lasted more than 2 hours.
Wozniacki led 4-1 in the opening set, but Zahlavova Strycova pushed Wozniacki deep into the corners and fought back to force a tiebreaker.
Zahlovova Strycova had set point in the first tiebreaker, but put two straight balls into the net to give the set to Wozniacki.
Wozniacki squandered four match points in the second tiebreaker before slamming Zahlavova Strycova’s defensive lob into the grandstands to win.
