Gavrilova through to China Open quarters
Daria Gavrilova has produced yet another impressive performance this week in Beijing, sealing a quarterfinal spot after brushing aside Caroline Garcia.
Australian Daria Gavrilova beat Caroline Garcia of France in straight sets on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open in Beijing.
Gavrilova won her third-round match 6-4 6-3 to set up a last-eight showdown with 16th seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.
Gavrilova, the world No.49, has beaten Svitolina in their three previous meetings in 2016, including at the Hopman Cup.
Svitolina caused a major upset on Thursday with a 6-3 7-5 win over top seed and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber of Germany.
Poland’s No.3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska also won through to the quarterfinals, downing Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-3 6-1.
