Shane Wakelin and Tarkyn Lockyer from Collingwood, Nathan Foley and Shaun Grigg from Richmond, and Paul Hudson and Scott Watters from St Kilda will join the growing list of sports starts competing in the inaugural Battle of the Codes.

Named today, alongside Melbourne Vixens Bianca Chatfield and Madison Browne, and  Melbourne Storm players Ryan Hinchcliffe andDavid Kidwell, the all-star line-up will fight it out to be crowned the tennis championship team at Melbourne Park on Saturday 10 December at 1pm.

The free event will feature doubles pairings from 16 different Melbourne clubs who will swap their football, bat, basketball or netball for a tennis racquet as part of a new showcase aimed at luring sports fans to Melbourne Park.

Athletes already confirmed are Bryce Gibbs and Jordan Russell from Carlton, David Zaharakis and Jake Melksham from  Essendon, Brad Green and Cale Morton  from Melbourne and Western Bulldogs players Liam Jones, Will Minson and Tom Williams.

David Hussey and George Bailey will represent  Melbourne Stars,  Rachel Jarry  joins fellow WNBA , Australian Opal and  Bulleen Boomer player Liz Cambage and Tim Davidson and James Hilgendorf will represent Melbourne Rebels with an additional player to be named.

Complete doubles pairings from Geelong, Hawthorn and North Melbourne Football Clubs are still to be announced along with Melbourne Renegades (Cricket).

Battle of the Codes will run during December Showdown, a showcase of tennis at all levels, including the high profile Australian Open Play-off, which gives emerging Australian talent the chance to earn a coveted wildcard into the Australian Open.

The December Showdown is the curtain-raiser to the summer of tennis and features more than 2500 matches during the three-week carnival.
