Matt Ebden has won his third match in a row in Tokyo following a straight-sets dismissal of Ivo Karlovic.

The West Australian, who won two matches to qualify for the main draw, beat the Croatian 6-4 6-3 in 67 minutes on Tuesday.

Ebden survived 13 aces from the world No.49 and dropped just five first-service points of his own for the entire match.

He’ll face either No.4 seed David Goffin – who won in Shenzhen last week – or Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the second round.

Another Australian, Bernard Tomic, is also through to the second round in Tokyo, where he’ll meet eighth seed Diego Schwartzman.
