Australia have booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia / Oceania Final Qualifying event after beating Indonesia 2-1 in New Delhi.

The victory guaranteed Australia a top two finish in their group, with today’s tie against fellow undefeated side Hong Kong set to determine who tops the group.

Amber Marshall (SA) continued her impressive form with a 6-0 6-1 victory over Fitriani Sabatini, but the tie was levelled when Olivia Gadecki (Qld) went down in three sets.

However, Marshall combined to good effect with Tayla Whitehouse (SA) in the deciding doubles rubber, the pair winning 6-1 7-5 to ensure Australia’s safe passage to the quarterfinals.

Captain Nicole Kriz was delighted with the outcome, saying: “Olivia has had some tough matches against other team’s number ones, but Amber has played really well in winning both her singles matches so far this week.

“In the two doubles matches, our girls have owned their court space much better than their opponents, which has made the difference.”

Three teams from the final qualifier will progress to the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals, which will be held in Hungary in September.
