Jordan Thompson made a disappointing opening-round exit at the Memphis Open on Wednesday.

The world No.63 was beaten 6-3 6-0 by Nikoloz Basilashvili, in a match that lasted just over one hour.

Thompson, who made an impressive Davis Cup debut for Australia winning his singles rubbers against Czechs Jiri Vesely and Jan Satral in Kooyong earlier this month, is ranked four spots above the Georgian in the world ATP rankings.

With Bernard Tomic also out of the tournament, the last Aussie remaining is qualifier Matt Ebden.

The West Australian, who beat fellow qualifier Peter Polansky in the first round, next faces last year’s Memphis finalist Taylor Fritz.
