James Duckworth is the only Australian in singles action on Wednesday at Flushing Meadows – and his task is an almighty one.

Across the net will be No.9 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Yet the New South Welshman says he’s looking forward to the challenge.

“Tsonga’s a great player: a big serve, big forehand, a tremendous athlete. He’s gone deep in slams before,” the Australian wildcard said.

“It’s a tough ask but I’m going to have to play aggressive and look to control the controllables.

“I’ll have to try and serve well and take it to him.”
