Thanasi Kokkinakis has been knocked out of the Stockholm Open in the first round by Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.

The world No.29 Chardy, seeded sixth in Stockholm, defeated the Australian in a thriller 7-5 4-6 7-5.

Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, the 2009 Stockholm champion, defeated American Sam Querrey 7-6(2) 6-1 to set up a meeting in the second round with fourth seed Bernard Tomic, scheduled for Wednesday.

Another Aussie, John Millman, will also take to the court on Wednesday, taking on No.8 seed Gilles Muller in the second round.

In other results, seventh-seeded American Jack Sock defeated Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-3 6-7(1) 6-3, while Steve Darcis of Belgium defeated Adrian Mannarino of France 7-6(4) 6-4.
