Update 1.40pm: Thanasi Kokkinakis has continued his stellar run at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells with an upset victory over 23rd seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Kokkinakis won 7-5 5-7 6-3 to move through to the third round, where he will face Argentine Juan Monaco, a victor over No.10 seed Marin Cilic.
A wildcard into the ATP Masters 1000 event, the win was Kokkinakis’s third over a top 30 opponent this year.
Garcia-Lopez had earlier this season won the ATP title in Zagreb.
Later on Saturday, Bernard Tomic and Sam Stosur both advanced to the third round of the joint ATP-WTA event with straight-sets victories.
Tomic dispatched 18-year-old Borna Coric 6-3 6-4 in one hour and 21 minutes, while Stosur beat another 18-year-old, Taylor Townsend, 6-4 6-2 in almost exactly the same length of time.
In other Aussie results, James Duckworth’s run came to an end at the hands of 28th seed Fernando Verdasco.
Duckworth, who had built a three-match winning streak in the Californian desert by reaching the second round as a qualifier, fell 6-2 7-6(3).
