In an all New South Wales battle, seventh seed Matthew Barton has continued his impressive run winning by defeating Jordan Thompson on Friday at the Melbourne Park Men’s International Pro Tour event.

Barton beat the third seed 6-4 6-3, and in the semifinals will take on fifth seed Alex Bolt from South Australia; Bolt won his quarterfinal 6-2 6-2 over New South Welshman Simon Ede.

The tournament’s top seed, Matt Reid from New South Wales, unfortunately had to retire from his quarterfinal against Maverick Banes at 5-2 in the first set.

Banes will meet in Saturday’s semifinal the unseeded Blake Mott from New South Wales after Mott defeated Daniel Byrnes 7-5 6-2.

Friday’s doubles final was a walkover victory to second seeds Bradley Mousley and Jordan Thompson over Matt Reid and Adam Hubble, as Reid was unable to recover from his singles quarterfinal retirement.

Saturday’s singles semifinals will be both staged at 10am with Sunday’s singles final also due to start at 10am.
