Sam Stosur has cruised into the third round of the Sony Open in Miami with a straight-sets victory over Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands.

Stosur swatted aside the qualifier 6-3 6-2 in one hour and 12 minutes to set up a last 32 meeting with American Coco Vandeweghe, a 7-6(7) 7-5 winner over No.21 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Stosur, the 16th seed, was awarded a bye into the second round.

Should she get that far, looming in the fourth round is a projected match up against Serena Williams.

Stosur was impressive on serve against Bertens, winning almost three-quarters of points on her first serve and saving four of the five break points she faced.

On the doubles court, Stosur’s compatriots Casey Dellacqua and Ash Barty fell 7-6(2) 3-6 [10-8] to another Aussie, Anastasia Rodionova, and her Russian partner Alla Kudryavtseva.
