Jarmila Groth will face third-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva in the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Groth progressed after her second-round opponent, Yaroslava Shvedova, retired injured with Groth leading 6-4 3-1.

Continuing what has been a successful summer for the Australian, Groth broke her opponent three times in the opening set while being broken twice herself.

Another break in the second set had Groth looking a likely winner before Shvedova called time on the match.

Groth’s next opponent, Zvonareva, came back from a set down to dispose of countrywoman Dinara Safina 3-6 6-3 6-2.

The only other Australian remaining in the main draw is fourth seed Sam Stosur who will meet 30th seed Lucie Safarova for a place in the fourth round and a possible match-up with 16th seed Maria Sharapova.
