Tennis Australia classifies court surfaces according to type rather than brand. There are four surface type categories:

  • Porous/Clay
  • Natural Grass
  • Hard court
  • Other; including Sand Filled Artificial Grass, carpet, synthetic clay, floorboard, etc.

For each surface type category there are multiple brands within the tennis and leisure industry. Choice of brand will relate to factors such as level of service, price and unique play influencing characteristics of the brand, such as cushioning.

The surface at Melbourne Park is called Plexicushion. Find out more about Plexicushion Prestige at the Australian Open.
