For more than 45 years, Margaret Weir has been at the heart of the Lesmurdie Tennis Club, making an extraordinary contribution both on and off the court. In recognition of her decades of dedication, Margaret has been named Tennis West’s Club Corner Volunteer of the Month. 

Known affectionately as “Marg”, she has served the club in almost every capacity imaginable, including junior coordinator, Club Captain, Social Coordinator and Pennant Captain. A Life Member since 2001, Marg continues to be a familiar and caring presence around the club, always looking out for the wellbeing of members by celebrating birthdays and supporting those who are unwell with thoughtful messages, flowers and visits. 

A breast cancer survivor herself, Marg has been the driving force behind the club’s annual Smash Cancer Tournament, formerly known as the Kaye Turner Memorial Cancer Tournament. The event has become a highlight on the club calendar, combining a fantastic day of tennis with great food, a community atmosphere and a hugely successful raffle. Thanks to Marg’s passion and leadership, the tournament has raised more than $170,000 for Cancer Council WA. 

Her commitment to giving back extends well beyond tennis. Every week, Marg volunteers with the Rise Organisation in Mundaring, supporting older people and those living with dementia. 

Marg’s compassion, generosity and tireless service have made a lasting impact on both her tennis club and the wider community. Tennis West proudly congratulates Margaret Weir on being named Club Corner Volunteer of the Month and thanks her for her remarkable contribution to tennis and community service in Western Australia.
