Storm Hunter has kept her Wimbledon 2026 main-draw hopes alive after recording a victory in the opening qualifying matches at Roehampton on Tuesday.
Hunter joins fellow West Aussie Tristan Schoolkate in the second round after his win on Monday.
Schoolkate defeated local wildcard Johannus Monday 7-5 6-3 and will next meet another Briton, Dan Evans, the 36-year-old former world No.21 attempting to play in his final Wimbledon main draw.
In her first Wimbledon qualifying match since 2023, Hunter overcame Belgian Sofia Costoulas 7-5 6-4.
The 31-year-old was aggressive at the net, winning 13 points to Costoulas’s three in the 82-minute encounter.
Targeting a second main-draw appearance at the All England Club., Hunter next faces a meeting with Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Should Hunter progress to that stage, Hunter would face US Open 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu in the final qualifying round.
In other results, Taylah Preston and Maddison Inglis were unable to win their opening matches.
Preston and Inglis fell in tight three-set battles to Italian opponents, losing to Tyla Caterina Grant and Lucia Bronzetti respectively.
