2 April 2026 | Tennis West

The Tennis West Board would like to take a moment to update you on the organisation’s current focus and progress, and to reaffirm the values that underpin our tennis community across Western Australia.

Tennis West continues to experience positive momentum across a number of important areas. Under the leadership of our Chief Executive Officer, Tennis West is pleased to report:

  • Constructive and ongoing positive discussions are taking place with the WA Government regarding the future of the State Tennis Centre, which remains a key strategic focus in 2026.
  • Increased investment in regional tennis, hiring new roles (Regional Manager and part time Regional Ambassadors) and delivering programs to strengthen participation and player development opportunities.
  • The conclusion of our summer league which saw 1,005 teams compete, the largest number on record, reflecting the growing engagement and enthusiasm for tennis in WA.
  • Delivery of 18 ‘Fuel to Go & Play’ Schools Classic events across regional and metro WA, with a total of 1,303 students taking part in tennis throughout Term 1.
  • Hosted the inaugural Local Government Forum, with 28 LGA’s attending from across metropolitan and regional WA, strengthening collaboration between local governments and tennis clubs to support the long-term sustainability of the sport.

As with any large and passionate sporting community, Tennis West also recognises that there will always be a diversity of views and perspectives. Robust debate and healthy discussion are a normal and valuable part of a strong sporting organisation. It is important, however, that such discussions remain respectful, constructive, and aligned with the values of integrity and respect that tennis has long championed.

The Tennis West Board remains firmly focused on its responsibilities to the sport, our affiliated clubs and associations, and all those who participate in tennis across Western Australia. The Board works closely with the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport through the Industry Investment Program to ensure governance practices align with the Australian Sports Commission’s Sports Governance Principles and Standards. With recent strong achievement against the 44 standards, Tennis West strives for continuous improvement, reinforcing the sound governance foundations confirmed through the Governance Review commissioned in 2024 and completed in 2025. This work is further supported by Tennis Australia, recognising Tennis West as a high performing organisation.

We are grateful for the leadership shown at club level and for the vital role clubs play in fostering a positive and inclusive tennis environment. By continuing to work together, we can ensure our sport remains united, respectful and well positioned for future growth. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the tennis community. If club representatives have any questions or concerns arising from recent external communications, they are welcome to raise these via the Chief Executive Officer: [email protected]

Last, but not least, this Easter, clubs across Western Australia will host tournament action at Beverley, Bridgetown, Hensman Park, Royal Kings Park, Nedlands, North Beach and the State Tennis Centre, with more than 1,300 players competing over the weekend. Easter tournaments are a highlight of the calendar, showcasing great competition, strong club spirit and plenty of on court excitement. We wish all players the very best of luck and thank the officials and volunteers for their support – and encourage everyone to enjoy a safe and happy Easter both on and off the tennis court.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Pam Cresswell

President, Tennis West
