The 2026 Fuel to Go and Play Schools Classic is nearing its exciting conclusion, and the numbers tell the story of another outstanding year for school tennis across Western Australia.
With just one event remaining, the prestigious Boys Slazenger Cup Final, this year’s Schools Classic has already surpassed last year’s participation figures, reinforcing its place as the state’s largest school tennis event.
So far in 2026, the competition has delivered an incredible 18 events across metropolitan and regional WA, welcoming 1,303 participants, 271 teams, and 53 schools.
Overall participation is up 8.5% from 2025, when the event saw just over 1,200 players take part across the state.
The growth has been felt right across the board:
- Metro events: 8 events, 172 teams, 24 schools, 861 participants
- Regional events: 10 events including the Country Final, 99 teams, 29 schools, 442 participants
The continued rise in participation highlights the strength of school tennis pathways across Western Australia and the ongoing success of the classroom-to-clubhouse model.
From Perth’s metro courts through to regional communities across the Great Southern, Upper Great Southern, Central Districts, Eastern Districts and South West, the Schools Classic has once again travelled far and wide, connecting schools from every corner of the state.
Events have been staged across locations including Hyden, Katanning, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Beverley, Merredin, York, Cunderdin and Bunbury, showcasing the true statewide footprint of the competition and the depth of school tennis talent across WA.
With the majority of divisions now complete, attention now turns to the final event still to be decided.
All eyes are on the Boys Slazenger Cup, where defending champions Applecross Senior High School will go head-to-head with Wesley College in what promises to be a fitting finale to the 2026 series.
Applecross enters the decider looking to defend the title they claimed in 2025, while Wesley will be eager to turn last year’s runners-up finish into championship success.
The final clash is set to cap off a remarkable Schools Classic season, with a full event wrap and final results summary to follow once the last trophy has been decided.
Tennis West would like to thank all students, teachers, schools, volunteers, venues and partners who have helped make this year’s competition such a success.
We also extend our deep appreciate to our partners that make the Schools Classic possible; Healthway, Fuel to Go and Play, Maxiblock Sunscreenn, Kinetic Australia, and the D’Arcy Slater Foundation.
