30 March 2026 | Tennis West

Tennis West recently returned to Broome, delivering a powerful day of connection, inclusion and participation through sport that brought together schools, community organisations and sporting bodies from across the region.

The day saw 16 key stakeholders working alongside Tennis West to create meaningful and inclusive sporting experiences for local young people. These partners included the Shire of Broome, All Abilities Football WA, Football Futures, Netball WA, Basketball WA, Inclusion Solutions WA, KAMS, Garnduwa Helping Minds, and St Mary’s College (Primary and Secondary).

Local schools also played a significant role, with students and staff attending from Broome Senior High School, Broome Primary School, Cable Beach Primary School, Roebuck Primary School, Broome North Primary School, Sacred Heart School Beagle Bay, and One Arm Point Remote Community School.

In total, 78 children from primary through to high school ages actively participated across the day, experiencing a range of activities designed to promote fun, movement and inclusion through sport. The event was further supported by an incredible turnout of approximately 50 teachers, highlighting the strong commitment from local education staff to ensure every student had the opportunity to take part.

The collaborative approach allowed participants to engage in tennis alongside exposure to other sports, reinforcing the message that sport can be accessible, welcoming and adaptable for all abilities. The day was a strong example of what can be achieved when community, education and sport organisations work together with a shared focus on inclusion.

To wrap up the visit, the Tennis West team also spent time at Broome Tennis Club, visiting the club’s social tennis night. The visit provided a great opportunity to connect directly with the local tennis community, hear about their successes and opportunities, and strengthen ties between Tennis West and one of the far north’s most passionate tennis hubs.

Tennis West extends it thanks to the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport for their ongoing support through the regional servicing grant. Tennis West would like to thank all stakeholders, schools, teachers and community members involved for their support and enthusiasm. In particular, the Shire of Broome for involving tennis to be part of this incredible day. Opportunities like these continue to reinforce the role sport can play in strengthening communities and creating inclusive pathways for young people across Western Australia.
