There was plenty of success for some teams while others were hampered by Friday night rain once again, putting a dampener on proceedings. Ladders remain tight in all leagues with some teams reaching the top for the first time.

WOMEN’S STATE LEAGUE

Results of both matches were tight in the Women’s State League with games going either way. Dalkeith caused a big upset of the round, defeating last season’s premiers Hensman Park by just three games. The key to the win was the singles ties with Dalkeith winning three of them led by youngster Isabelle Criddle overcoming past MVP Ella Nurkic and Heyley Burton defeating an in-form Karin Hiramatsu. Hensman Park showed their strength in the doubles but the result was secured thanks to Hayley Burton and Isabelle Criddle managing to take the doubles to a tie-break over Alice Stevens and Karin Hiramatsu. The win puts Dalkeith into third spot while Hensman Park remain winless.

Cottesloe is the form team of the competition with a tight win over UWA. Cottesloe regulars Elena Manoj and Jess Culley won their respective singles matches, but the depth of UWA kept them in the game with Sheryl Halim and Kendal Macdonald in the third and fourth rubber fixtures leveled the scores. Culley and Manoj teamed up in the doubles to win their tie while the other doubles match could not be completed due to the light and the game in the balance.

MEN’S STATE LEAGUE

It was another disappointment for Friday night matches with both the Claremont v Cottesloe and UWA v Mt Lawley fixtures washed out. UWA had grabbed an early 2-0 lead with Archie Brown and Ben Galvao winning their singles before the rain hit.

The only fixture to go ahead was Alexander Park and Royal Kings Park. The match was close with two of the four singles going to a match tie-break, with Alexander Park winning the moments that mattered. Alexander Park’s Nemanja Savic and Ashwin Sharma won the match tie-breaks over Jake Robinson and Lincoln Duckett. The win was big for Alexander Park as they took top spot after the result.

BOY’S STATE LEAGUE

Reabold are looking like the form team of the competition with a convincing 6-0 win over Applecross Casey. The side have found some consistency with the Miller brothers in the winner’s circle again helped by Liam McDowell and Trevor Eastwood. UWA are also close behind with a strong win over Greenwood 5-1 and also remain undefeated after three rounds as well as Hensman Park who won 4-0 against North Beach but were made to work for it with two matches going to match tie-breaks.

GIRL’S STATE LEAGUE

Cottesloe are loving having Elena Manoj at their club. After dominating on Saturday for the Women’s State League, Elena backed up with a strong win over Zayah Baker, helping Cottesloe win 5-1 over Hensman Park. Cottesloe are now the only team to be undefeated so far this season after Mt Lawley and Hensman Park lost their matches. The competition became tighter as Mosman Park and UWA won their first match of the season. The key to Mosman Park’s win was Eva Ishchenko, coming from behind to win in three sets and the rubber proving to be decisive. For UWA, Simona Costine, Lucy Gibson and Trianna Fernando were too strong in their singles ties.
