We’re now two rounds into the Summer Leagues season, and the rain has played its part in some fixtures.  Read the summary from Round Two of the State League and Junior State League.

MEN’S STATE LEAGUE:

Rain dominated play in the Friday night fixtures between Mt Lawley and Cottesloe and UWA and Royal Kings Park. Both fixtures started on time but were unable to complete their matches. Mt Lawley had grabbed a slight 2-1 lead in the singles ties until the rain came.

On Saturday, Alexander Park brought their best game and took down early season favourites Claremont on the grass courts of Alexander Park. Experienced Alexander Park players Scott Jones and Ashwin Sharma secured two of the singles wins. The key to the win was the doubles, with rubbers at two apiece, the doubles combinations of Alexander Park edged out Claremont, winning both their ties to win 4-2.

WOMEN’S STATE LEAGUE:

Matches were hard to split in the Women’s State League as Royal Kings Park and UWA ran out of sunlight. Rubbers were tied at 2-2 after singles matches and the doubles matches looked to be both going into a match tie-break before the sun had set on the day. Two impressive results were Jasmin Heapes and Misty Woodhouse from Royal Kings Park, both from a set down to win the rubber.

Last year’s Champions of Champions Singles winner Elena Manoj (Cottesloe) continued her uprise in form over the past year to win against past MVP Lauren Nikoloski (Dalkeith). Just like the other women’s fixture, rubbers were tied at 2-2 after singles before the experience of Alicia Molik and Ksenija Vujacic in the doubles won their doubles ties.

BOY’S STATE LEAGUE:

Reabold, Hensman Park and last season’s premiers UWA all won their ties and remain the three undefeated sides this season. The Miller brothers in Daniel and Adam were standouts for Reabold, both winning their singles and doubles ties. Applecross Curtis got their first win of the season with their depth proving important with Daniel Hardy and Dylan Evans winning in the singles then backing it up with two tight tie-break wins in the doubles.

GIRL’S STATE LEAGUE:

Cottesloe made a statement with a convincing win over UWA. The Manoj sisters formed half the Cottesloe side and were too strong in their singles. The sisters then paired up in the doubles to win in straight sets. Mt Lawley were the second side to remain undefeated with a strong win over Mosman Park 5-0.

Hensman Park won their first match of the season with a strong win over last year’s finalists Greenwood. Karin Hiramatsu and Addison Franklin won their singles ties then backed up with a win in the doubles playing together.
